Middlebury, VT
Scott + Partners, Architects
Budget: $1.6 Million
Completed: November 2002
This multi-building historical renovation took place adjacent to Middlebury’s Downtown Historic District. The project included extensive renovation and restoration of the four story Smith House and original carriage barn. It also included renovations to a 19th Century brick Federal style apartment building and a new four unit building.
Each building required extensive structural upgrades, including foundation replacement in two buildings. Three story porches on the Smith building were rebuilt to match the original historic details. All buildings received new mechanical and electrical systems, as well as complete building code upgrades.
New kitchens, bathrooms, and finishes completed this project that provided 17 units of much needed affordable housing in Middlebury.
