Mechanical and Structural Renovations
Stewart Construction was awarded a 4.8 million dollar project in the spring of 2006 by the Vermont Air Guard to replace their Type H Aircraft Arresting System at both ends of the runway. The project required around the clock coordination with both the Vermont Air Guard, and the Burlington International Airport Control Tower.
The important safety features were constructed on a strict schedule, as the project temporarily shortened the runway. Work included the removal and relocation of the Type H Aircraft Arresting System equipment on the BAC-12 as well as the installation of government supplied pre-cast concrete block to house the Jet Arresting cable. Stewart Construction also coordinated work with major sub contractors for site work, concrete, steel fabrication and electrical.
The project was completed in 2 phases. Phase I of the project took place from April 1-May 15 2006, and Phase II was complete in October, 2006. Both phases were completed on time.
